For what exactly does the NATO use PlagScan?
The NATO’s recruitment test is very complex to ensure the future employees’ excellence in their profession. Most applicants are well-educated and possess specialized skillsets in specific fields. Other applicants don’t suit the qualifying requirements and may attempt to feign their knowledge and skills. The initial online exam tests all applicants in terms of their qualifications, while PlagScan helps to separate fraudsters from qualifying candidates.

The online exam contains a set of open-ended questions. All applicants have to answer these questions within a limited time frame without help from third parties or outside sources. Since the applicants take the exam from a location of their preference, the hiring managers at NATO have no control on the actual compliance of rules. This is where PlagScan functions as control system, finding all cases of copy-and-paste content or answers that were highly inspired of third sources. 

If PlagScan indicates a PlagLevel between 15 to 20 percent the hiring managers examine  tests in more detail - investigating if the applicants have either plagiarized or is very knowledgeable in their field. The PlagReports have been a reliable tool to double-check the applicant's’ responses with different sources from the internet.
