Plagiarism Detection Within your own Data Processing Center
We exclusively offer the installation of our software as an on-premise solution – locally on your server at your data processing center (private cloud).
With this solution, documents never leave your organization’s network and your users can access PlagScan locally via the intranet.
Checklist for your Data Processing Center
The most recent version of Linux Debian must be installed on a suitable server, including completed DNS and firewall configuration.
Hardware recommendations depend on the amount of text you want to process (contact us for an individual evaluation). The minimal configuration is:
- 12 processing cores
- SSD HD 120 GB
- Hardware RAID
- RAM 32 GB
The server has to be configured for the internet and your network with a high-speed connection and remote SSH connection for PlagScan with unlimited root access to the designated BOX server.
The address and particularities of a backup server have to be disclosed to the provider.
PlagScan offers you the possibility of a "single sign-on" using the OpenID protocol and a Shibboleth interface alike while using LDAP data.
PlagScan-in-a-BOX delivers you our service as an on-premise solution.
Set up PlagScan in your data processing center in order to:
- Ensure your documents and personal data never leave your organization’s network, which means absolute legal compliance and data integrity.
- Access PlagScan from your platform (embedded via API and Plugin) or through a standard browser interface.
- Apply your existing management settings directly to the PlagScan-in-a-BOX settings.
Can the BOX also be installed on a virtual machine or is a stand-alone server necessary for performance reasons?
Above we listed the minimum hardware requirements for your server. Meeting those requirements guarantees that, even during peak usage-periods and even while processing very large documents, your plagiarism checks are completed within a few hours at most.
We recommend a stand-alone server, but when choosing a virtual machine you must guarantee that PlagScan has unrestricted root access to the server, and that the processing resources that are planned for running the service are in fact available. Otherwise, serious delays during peak usage are inevitable.
Our network administrator has experience with Fedora/RedHat/CentOS or some other OS. Is it mandatory that Debian be installed?
PlagScan-in-a-BOX is developed for the most recent stable release of Debian and might not be compatible with different distributions.
Maintenance of the PlagScan-in-a-BOX server (installing updates for Linux and PlagScan) is taken care of by PlagScan, so no detailed knowledge of Debian is necessary on your end. Furthermore, so long as a minimal operating system has already been installed, PlagScan itself can install Debian . If you have questions regarding this matter, contact us, and we will be glad to answer them.
Which server folders need to be backed up?
The basic procedure requires that a backup server address be given to PlagScan, which will take care of the backup. If that is not acceptable to you for some reason, the folders (including subfolders) to be backed up are: /etc, /root, /home /var/www.
What ‘single-sign-on’ / directory services can be used?
We support OpenID, Shibboleth and OpenLDAP / Active Directory. Let us know your preference.
Can we remove uploaded documents completely from the system, so that a document will not be available to PlagScan at all?
At no point are documents entirely available to anybody other than the account holder, whether via the web service or PlagScan-in-a-BOX (see also our data-policy).
If you cancel the PlagScan subscription or delete documents from your account, your data and documents will be completely removed from our system.
